Privacy policy

This policy explains what information Quarterbird (“Quarterbird,” “we,” “us”) handles when you use the Quarterbird iPhone app (the “App”) and the quarterbird.com website (the “Site”). Quarterbird is operated from California, United States.

The short version

• Your transactions, trips and tax profile are stored on your phone. We don't keep a copy on our servers.
• We never ask for your bank or payment-app login. Imports are files you choose.
• Location is used only while a mileage trip you started is running, and stays on your phone.
• We don't sell or share your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.

1. Information that stays on your device

The App stores the following only on your device: the tax profile you enter (filing status, expected income, wages, withholding, state rate and optional business name), transactions you import or add, your sorting rules, mileage trips (including the locations recorded during a trip you start), and your settings. This information is not transmitted to us. If you delete the App or use Settings → Delete all my data, it is removed from the App.

2. Information processed to provide subscriptions

Purchases are made through Apple's App Store and are subject to Apple's privacy policy. We use RevenueCat, Inc. to manage subscriptions. To do this, the App sends RevenueCat an anonymous, randomly generated app user ID, your purchase and subscription history, and basic device information (such as the App version, operating system and storefront country). We do not receive your name, Apple ID or payment card details.

3. Information collected by the Site

The Site is hosted by Vercel Inc. Like most web hosts, Vercel processes technical information such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to deliver the Site and protect it from abuse. The Site does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The quarterly tax calculator runs in your browser; the numbers you enter are not sent to us.

4. Accountant share links

When you share a Schedule C summary, the totals are encoded in the part of the link after the “#” sign. Browsers do not send that part of a link to a web server, so the summary is not transmitted to or stored by us. Anyone you give the link to can view the summary, so share it only with people you trust.

5. When you contact us

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message, and use it only to respond and support you. Please don't send bank statements, Social Security numbers or account passwords.

6. Permissions

• Location (while using the App): used only to measure mileage for a trip you start. You can deny it and enter trips by hand.
• Notifications: used for deadline and trial reminders, which are scheduled on your device.
• Files: used only to read a CSV you choose to import or to save an export you request.

7. How we share information

We share information only with service providers that help us run Quarterbird (Apple for payments and distribution, RevenueCat for subscription management, Vercel for website hosting, and our email provider for support), under terms that limit their use of it, or when required by law. We do not sell personal information and do not “share” it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

8. Retention and security

Data on your device stays until you delete it. Subscription records are kept by Apple and RevenueCat for as long as needed to provide and account for your subscription. Support emails are kept for as long as needed to help you and then deleted. We use reasonable safeguards, and our design avoids collecting financial records in the first place.

9. Children

Quarterbird is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

10. Your California privacy rights

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to request deletion or correction of it; to opt out of its sale or sharing (we do neither); and to limit the use of sensitive personal information (we don't use it beyond providing the service). We won't discriminate against you for exercising these rights. To make a request, email support@quarterbird.com. Because your records are stored on your device, you can also view, export and delete them directly in the App. We may need to verify your request, for example by confirming details of your subscription.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information, we'll update this page and its effective date. For material changes, we'll also let you know in the App before they take effect.
