Terms of service
Effective October 17, 2026
These Terms govern your use of the Quarterbird iPhone app (the “App”) and quarterbird.com (the “Site”), together the “Service,” operated by Quarterbird (“we,” “us”). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
1. Who can use Quarterbird
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, and able to form a binding contract.
2. Not tax advice
Quarterbird is a planning tool. It estimates how much of your self-employment income to set aside, organizes transactions and mileage, and produces summaries you can share. Quarterbird is not a tax preparer, does not file returns, and does not provide tax, legal, accounting or financial advice. Estimates rely on the information you provide and on published tax tables for the relevant year, and your actual tax may differ. You are responsible for your tax filings and payments. Consider consulting a qualified professional before making decisions.
3. Subscriptions and free trials
- Quarterbird Pro is available as a monthly ($9.99) or yearly ($69.99) auto-renewing subscription, purchased through Apple. Prices may vary by region and include any applicable taxes as shown by Apple.
- Eligible new subscribers receive a 14-day free trial. We schedule a reminder 2 days before it ends. Payment is charged to your Apple ID when the trial ends unless you cancel before then.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period.
- Your price stays the same for as long as your subscription remains active. If we change prices for new subscribers, existing subscribers keep their price.
- Manage or cancel in the App (Settings → Cancel subscription) or in your Apple account settings. Refund requests are handled by Apple under its policies; if something went wrong on our side, email us and we'll help.
4. Free features
The tax calculator, data exports, the Schedule C summary and accountant share links are free and remain available whether or not you subscribe.
5. Your data
You own the information you enter. It is stored on your device, as described in our privacy policy. You are responsible for keeping your device secure and for exporting your data if you want a copy before deleting the App.
6. Acceptable use
Don't misuse the Service: no reverse engineering except as permitted by law, no interfering with its operation, no using it to break the law, and no reselling it.
7. The App Store
If you downloaded the App from Apple's App Store, your use of the App is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which these Terms supplement. These Terms are between you and Quarterbird, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it, and is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms with the right to enforce them against you.
8. Intellectual property
The Service, including its design, text, logo and software, belongs to Quarterbird. We grant you a personal, non-transferable license to use the App for your own business and personal purposes under these Terms.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't guarantee that estimates will match your actual tax liability or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Quarterbird will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for tax penalties, interest, or lost profits, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim, or $50. Some jurisdictions don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
11. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in California, except that either party may bring a qualifying claim in small claims court. Before filing a claim, please email us so we can try to resolve it informally.
12. Ending use
You can stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or end access if you seriously violate these Terms. Sections 2 and 9–11 survive termination.
13. Changes
We may update these Terms. We'll post the new version here with a new effective date and, for material changes, notify you in the App. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept it.
